R&B MOTOWN SOUL FUNK BLUES
Pop music from the 50's 60's and 70's was interlocked with dancing. TV shows featured teens dancing to the songs that were at the top of the charts. Many songs invented new fad dances that quickly came and went such as the Twist, Watusi, Frug, Boni Marroni, Locomotion, Jerk and Boogaloo. But the idea of just listening to music without dancing came about as pop/rock concerts became popular in large theaters and arenas. MEAN STREETS strives to recreate that synergy with the audience that makes people get up, dance and interact with the band. The song list comes from that great era, especially from the Motown / Soul genre by artists such as James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Sam and Dave, Wilson Pickett, The Four Tops, Otis Redding, Ray Charles and many others.
MEAN STREETS is also writing and performing their own material that is in the same style as songs from that era, such as Mean Streets Special, What Part of No Don't You Understand, Fallen Angel, Shake What Your Mamma Gave You, So So Far, Why Won't the Austrians Dance and others.
